He graduated in Psychology from the University of Porto in 1983, receiving the Engineer António de Almeida Foundation Prize for the best student in the undergraduate program. He earned a Master's degree in Personnel Management in 1989 and obtained his Ph.D. in 1993 from Aston Business School (Birmingham, United Kingdom). He began his teaching career at the University of Porto in 1983 and started collaborating with the University of Minho in 1993, currently holding the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Psychology at the School of Psychology, where he served as Director from 2013 to 2015. He was responsible for developing the area of Work Psychology, Organizations, and Human Resource Management at this School, where he coordinated the specialization in Work and Organizational Psychology of the Ph.D. Program in Psychology. Currently, he teaches and conducts research in the areas of Decision-Making Psychology and is a member of the Human Cognition Laboratory at the University of Minho.
