Career, Development and Counseling

About

Our research focuses on the study of career psychology, more specifically on the process of vocation exploration. It is a process based on the individual, involving curiosity, the quest for information, experimentation, imaginary rehearsal and self-evaluation in diverse occupations and roles. Vocation exploration is an important component of the decision making process and career development and a frequent goal of intervention. It is involved in the advance of decision making, adaptability and ethical questioning throughout the career.

We are interested in identifying the conditions facilitating or hindering vocation exploration in education, in work contexts or in the vocation exploration itself. We want to understand the impact of the effects of vocation exploration in the ability to cope with career changes in different moments of life. We study these issues in specific groups (women, university students, graduates, young people with learning disabilities and behaviour issues or living in institutions, refugees). Furthermore, we study the process and the results of various models of vocation intervention (e.g., Life Design Counseling, Career Counselling).
