About
The AaZ – Read Better, Know More program assists children in the 1st and 2nd grades with basic literacy difficulties in developing their reading and writing skills. The intervention follows a regular and systematic tutoring model, conducted on an individual basis, focusing on basic competencies (decoding, speed, and expressiveness). The program is developed in partnership with the University of Minho and involves the collaboration of specialists and experts who support the intervention of a team of tutor-teachers in over 80 schools nationwide.
Objectives:
- Prevent initial difficulties with reading and writing from becoming chronic problems
- Enable students to perceive reading not as a burdensome task, but as a tool for acquiring knowledge
- Help students reach the general class level in terms of reading and writing
- Ensure students read with age-appropriate speed, accuracy, and expressiveness
- Gradually develop students' motivation for reading
