CIPsi in the media: how the brain selects what we remember and strategies to strengthen the mind

In an interview with the weekly magazine Visão, Pedro Albuquerque, coordinator of the Research Group on Human Memory at CIPsi’s Human Cognition Laboratory, shared insights on the role of science in the fight against memory loss.

In the article by the journalist Clara Soares, the CIPsi researcher discussed the kaleidoscopic effects of memory and highlighted the complexity of the remembering process from childhood to adulthood. He highlighted the influence of sensory experiences in the formation of early memories and discussed the reconstructive nature of memory, underlining how personal narratives are shaped by fragments and suggestions.

Pedro Albuquerque also addressed the quality of sleep, highlighting its importance in memory consolidation, and the consequences of emerging technologies. He pointed out how digital overload can negatively affect the authentic recall of experiences. Moreover, the researcher stressed the value of experiences lived fully in the present moment, suggesting that the best memories can arise when they are not captured digitally.
