Publication | Bedtime Procrastination: What Are the Reasons People Delay Going to Bed?

André Oliveira, Beatriz Pereira, Camila Aguiar, Pedro Rosário e Paula Magalhães, researchers from Learning, Instruction and Career Lab published an article in the journal  ‘Psicothema’ um artigo intitulado "Assessing Motives for Delaying Bedtime: Development and Psychometric Properties of the Reasons for Bedtime Procrastination Scale”.

Bedtime procrastination has become increasingly common and may lead to negative health consequences.

In this study, the authors developed and assessed the psychometric properties of the Reasons for Bedtime Procrastination Scale, a phenomenon that is still in its early stages, both in terms of research and sleep interventions.

Data collected from 653 Portuguese adults suggest that, despite previous qualitative studies identifying three main groups of reasons for delaying bedtime, these motives converge into two broad categories: behavioral and cognitive reasons.
