Adaptabilidade de carreira em diferentes anos letivos: antes e durante a COVID-19

Em março de 2020, a Organização Mundial de Saúde declarou estado de pandemia por COVID-19. Na
tentativa de evitar a propagação do vírus, foram impostas medidas sanitárias restritivas. A investigação
indica que tais medidas trouxeram novos desafios ao desenvolvimento dos mais jovens, causando
mudanças abruptas e específicas nas suas vidas. Assim, os efeitos a médio e a mais longo prazo da
pandemia por COVID-19 ao nível da educação e o seu impacto na população, ainda são relativamente
desconhecidos. Este estudo pretende analisar se existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas na
adaptabilidade de carreira de alunos do nono ano de escolaridade portugueses, antes e durante a
pandemia por COVID-19. Participaram 2522 alunos de ambos os sexos [1252 (46.6%) rapazes, com
idades entre os 12 e os 18 anos], a frequentar escolas que integram a Comunidade Intermunicipal do
Ave, distribuídos por grupo em função do ano letivo (2018/19, n = 1443; 2020/21, n = 1078). Os
participantes responderam à Escala sobre Adaptabilidade. Os resultados de uma MANOVA indicam que
o sexo e o ano letivo geraram efeitos sobre os valores de Adaptabilidade de Carreira. Registaram-se
melhores resultados em 2020/21, e as raparigas apresentaram valores superiores de Adaptabilidade de
Carreira nos dois anos letivos.
In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. In an
attempt to prevent the spread of the virus, restrictive health measures were imposed. Research indicates
that these measures have brought new challenges to the development of young people, causing abrupt
and specific changes in their lives. Consequently, the medium and longer term effects of the COVID-19
pandemic on education and its impact on the population are still relatively unknown. This study aims to
analyze whether there are statistically significant differences in the career adaptability of Portuguese
students attending ninth grade, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were 2522
students of both sexes [11252 (46.6%) boys, aged between 12 and 18 years old], attending schools
located in Intermunicipal Community of Ave distributed by two groups based on the school year
(2018/19, n = 1443; 2020/21, n = 1078). The participants responded to the Career Adapt-Abilities
Scale. The results of a MANOVA indicate that gender and school year had effects on Career Adaptability
scores, achieving better results in 2020/21. Girls showed higher Career Adaptability scoresin both school
years.
