Bio

I hold a PhD in Neuroscience from University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in Spain. With Prof. Fernando Cadaveira and Prof. Socorro Rodríguez-Holguín, I started to develop my research on on the study of brain activity (by mean of the event-related potentials technique) associated with different cognitive processes (e.g. attention, working memory, inhibitory control) in college students with a pattern of alcohol consumption "binge drinking". In addition, epidemiological and neuropsychological data analysis in college students with this pattern of alcohol consumption have also been part of my research activity during my PhD, which I finished in June 2012 obtaining the PhD extraordinary award of this year by School of Psychology of the University of Santiago de Compostela. After my PhD, I continued my career as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Oscar Gonçalves and with Prof. Adriana Sampaio at the Psychological Neuroscience Lab of the Psychology Research Center (CIPsi) in the University of Minho. My research continues to focus on the study of the neural correlates of alcohol binge drinking in college students, although with the use of a wider range of neuroscientific techniques, namely neuroimaging techniques (including structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging -s/fMRI), that allow the study of the neurostructural and neurofunctional consequences with a more detailed. Recently my focus of interest has expanded to the study of behavioral addictions, namely, the study of the prevalence and neural correlates of problematic use of the internet, social networks and video games in youth and adolescents.
